In the latin tradition (in your case) it would be:

Margarita Mooney De Clayton

The "De" (of) meaning belonging to. It is signaling to the world that you are a married woman, belonging to a new family while still honoring & retaining your Family's name origin.

As a Dominican immigrant married into an American/Italian family I can relate! My husband was so confused at times! Lol My family still calls me by my nickname. We all had one growing up. It gets really interested when we get together bc we all had married into different nationalities. For instance my sister in law is chinese; my daughter in law is Indian descend :). My sister in law married to a Puerto rican and thats the closest we have been so far! Thank you for the article! I enjoyed it!

Ps

As you know in latinamerica traditionally children keep both names the father's and the mother's in addition to all the middle names parents may add! Two minimum? I used to have 2 middle names plus my father last name & my mother last name! Five! Lol When the girls get married they are to drop the mother's last name & replace it with the husband's last name as you did!
